Wallpaper Removal
Wallpaper Removal Overview
Removing wallpaper can be a messy, tedious job. It can also be frustrating when you use the wrong technique, resulting in wallpaper that sticks to your walls in patches, or worse, damages the surface underneath. Leave it to the professionals, and let ED Painting LLC get the job done efficiently. We’ll leave you with paper-free walls that look like new.
Wallpaper Removal Methods And Process
There are several methods that can be used to remove old, unwanted wallpaper. The method we use will depend
primarily on the type of wallpaper and the surface underneath. The three main methods of wallpaper removal are
stripping, soaking and scraping, and steaming.
Stripping
Stripping is the quickest, easiest wallpaper removal method, but it doesn’t work on all wallpaper. Stripping simply
involves lifting a corner of the paper and then peeling it off the wall. This method works best on temporary, removable,
and strippable wallpapers. Most other wallpapers require a more labor-intensive removal method.
Soaking And Scraping
Most wallpaper types can be removed using the soaking and scraping method. Before soaking, the wallpaper must be
perforated or scored to put tiny holes or slits in the wallpaper that allow the removal solution to get under the paper
and dissolve the adhesive underneath. A solution of warm water and liquid or gel remover is applied to the walls using
a spray bottle or sponge. The removal solution must be allowed to sit for a period of time to dissolve the adhesive, and
then the wallpaper can be peeled away and scraped off using a putty knife.
Steaming
Steam is a highly effective wallpaper removal method that works on the most stubborn adhesives. A wallpaper
steamer is filled with water, and very hot steam is applied to small sections of the wallpaper before the wallpaper is
peeled away with a scraper. Steaming can be hazardous, as the hot steam can cause burns if not done carefully with
proper protective equipment.
Refinish Your Walls
After the wallpaper has been fully removed, we ensure a smooth surface on your walls so that they’ll look beautiful with
new paint or wallpaper. We skim surfaces to ensure they’re smooth, and if there are any small holes or damaged
plaster, we’ll repair them so your walls look as good as new. We can complete your walls with fresh paint, or prep them
so they’re ready for new wallpaper. We also protect surfaces in your home, and we’ll completely clean up the mess
when the project is complete.
